Lab Equipments For Measuring Moisture Of Seeds & Separation As Per Size

Agriculture is the activity that has been thee back bone of the economy in developing nations like India. The agricultural productivity and yield depend upon diversified factors such as the soil, availability of water for irrigation, amount of average rain in the region and slope of the land and so on. The agricultural research institutes various companies engaged in production of seeds and fertilizers try to develop common guidelines for the typical crop in the typical region.

Why moisture meter?

The quality of seed plays an important role in agricultural productivity. Especially the moisture content in the seeds can be the decisive factor regarding deriving the ideal timing for sowing. Therefore measurement of moisture content in seeds is an important task. Usually the researchers and agriculturists use digital moisture meter for determining the moisture content in the seeds. At the same time moisture content in the seeds would be an important factor for storage and processing of the seeds as well.

Working principle of moisture meter for seeds:

The basic principle of working of moisture meter for seeds would be the non-destructive measurement through electrical resistivity of the substance ie seeds in this case. Electrical resistivity is the resistance offered by the particular material per unit cross sectional area. For instance; completely dried wood is an insulating material as electricity doesn’t travel through it. However as the moisture content in the wood grows; the current passes much easily through it.

Based on this principle moisture meter manufacturer ambala design, manufacture and market the moisture meters; that are widely used to determine the moisture content in seeds. There are sensors called transducers deployed in these moisture meters that convert one form of energy into other. The measurement of moisture is carried out in non-destructive way; that is there would be no damage caused to the material being tested. Thus the exact moisture content in the seeds is displayed in the digital format for more accuracy.

Division of seeds according to sample:

Size of the seeds is also an important factor. While packaging the seeds the companies or institutions need to ensure that they are of identical size so that the yield and results in terms of the quality of crop and productivity after sowing would be identical as well. Separating the seeds of equal size would be a time consuming task and it would not be practically feasible as well. Therefore seed/grain divider is extensively used in the agricultural companies to separate the seeds of identical size.

The seeds are loaded in the hopper on the upper portion of the divider. Due to gravity the seeds start flowing down from the opening provided at the bottom and taken on the rotating disc. The disc rotating at high speed applies centrifugal force on the seeds and the seeds of equal size and eventually mass would fall through the disc at identical distance. They are collected in a container. Thus the seeds of equal size are easily collected separately through the seed/grain divider.

These laboratory equipments save our time and also help us to determine the quality of seeds.
